Gary Paulsen
Gary Paulsen was born May 17, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mostly his mother raised him during his early childhood as his father was in the military and was stationed over seas. Gary started writing in 1962 after a stint in the military. His first book was Special War, which described the Vietnam War through the eyes of veterans. Shortly after, Gary wrote his first children’s novel, Mr. Tucket.
In 1987 the book Hatchet brought Gary Paulsen fame. He sold millions of copies, which inspired him to write a series about the main character Brian.
Gary Paulsen lives in La Luz, New Mexico with his wife. He also has a 40-acre spread north of Willow, Alaska where he breeds and trains sled dogs for the Iditarod. I’m amazed by Gary’s wide spectrum of experiences that are brought out in his incredible and varied novels.
